As the Twins’ DH, Byron Buxton on pace to play career high in games

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:59:14 GMT

If Byron Buxton continues to play games at his current pace, the Twins’ outfielder will set a new career high in games played in a season.Back in the lineup as the Twins started a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on Monday at Target Field, Buxton has missed only five games through more than a quarter of the 2023 season. At that pace, he will play more than the 140 games he played in 2017.He sat out Sunday’s 4-2 loss in Anaheim after leaving Saturday’s 6-2 victory because of tightness near his right knee, which was surgically repaired last fall.“For me to do what I did, and come out for that tightness, you know, shows a little bit more of who I’m trying to become,” Buxton said before Monday night’s game. In the past, he said, “I would’ve tried to push myself through that, which would prevent myself from going back like I could today.”But Buxton also hasn’t played a single game in the field this season, either, and his overall health likely is a product of his willin...
