JONESBURG, Mo. -- Dozens of firefighters from multiple departments are battling a massive fire at a scarp metal yard in Jonesburg near Warrenton. That’s about an hour or so west of St. Louis. It’s all happening at the Scrap Mart Metals Recycling Facility just off I-70. Authorities tell FOX 2 that the fire is contained. That is a big improvement over what the situation was like earlier when heavy smoke and flames were coming from the fire site. We’re told the facility is basically a scrap metal business that recycles things like vehicles. Authorities tell us the area that’s on fire contains all non-rubber and non-metallic parts of vehicles which are being recycled. That would be things like foam and fabric.Shelter in place advisoryNo injuries are being reported but the Warren County Emergency Management Director, Jim Sharp, says the smoke poses a low level hazard. As a precaution, a shelter in place advisory has been issued for areas to the south and east of the fire scene.Crews go...

The City of Denver intends to lease a 300-room hotel in northeast Denver to use as a homeless shelter, with an option to purchase the property for 60 percent more than it fetched a year ago.A City Council committee was set to be briefed Wednesday on the tentative deal for the hotel at 4040 N. Quebec St., which currently operates as a Doubletree by Hilton. But the committee postponed the discussion a week after another agenda item took longer than expected.Denver has shown an interest for years in housing the homeless in hotels, and that desire has increased under Mayor Mike Johnston, who assumed office in July and has vowed to house 1,000 people by the end of the year. The 175,000-square-foot Doubletree building just south of Interstate 70 in the Central Park neighborhood has 300 hotel rooms as well as large conference rooms, a full kitchen, laundry facilities and outdoor pool. Kenneth Wan and Doris Yuen stood in the doorway of their new restaurant this week, catching oranges from a lion dancer while cymbals and drums banged away in the background. In Chinese culture, the lion dance is a way to consecrate temples and new businesses. The lion, a costume with two people handling the head and tail, “eats” an orange and spits it back out. It’s good luck for whoever can catch it. Luckily, Yuen and Wan had good grips that evening.“Blessing a restaurant is very traditional for Chinese culture, and we thought it’d be a cool way to make an announcement to the neighborhood that we’re here,” Wan said.Yuen and Wan are opening MAKfam, their first full-service restaurant at 39 W. 1st Ave., next door to Snooze’s new South Broadway location, on Nov. 1. Formerly called Meta Asian Kitchen and located inside the Avanti Food & Beverage market hall in Denver’s LoHi neighborhood, MAKfam stands for Meta Asian Kitchen.
